Monday, February 24, 2025: Suggestions for Nonviolent Resistance (Boycott!!!)
Some Suggestions for Nonviolent Resistance from Nancy McFarland
Religious at the UN – RUN: religiousattheun@googlegroups.com
Our community shares a deep concern about current actions of the US government – actions with immense negative ramifications extending across the entire globe. There are joint actions we can all take to counter these harmful acts.
One powerful action is to participate in boycotting – nonviolent resistance exerts economic pressure to demonstrate widespread public disapproval.
There are many plans emerging for upcoming boycotts to express our concern over the dismantling of DEI programs and more. Here are a few to consider:
28 February Consumer Economic Blackout (Thursday, 27 February at Midnight until Friday, 28 February at Midnight)

The day of economic resistance is to show that "we the people are the system...
Instructions:

A Lenten Fast from Corporations: A Call to Spiritual Resistance
7 March-14 March: Boycott Amazon
21-28 March: Boycott Nestle
We are hoping this is just the beginning of a list of actions to empower those who are feeling called to fight this unjust display of power.
SPREAD THE MESSAGE
Talk about it, post about it, and document your actions that day!
WHY THIS MATTERS!
~ Corporations and banks only care about their bottom line.
~ If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, it sends a powerful message.
~ If they don't listen (they wont) we make the next blackout longer (We will)
This is our first action.
This is how we make history.

Announcement from Father John Dear:
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid." ---John 14:27
Dear Friends, Blessings of Christ’s peace!
As the Trump administration wreaks havoc on the nation and the world, serving the superrich and cutting basic resources for millions of poor people, I invite you to join me for a five-week class every Monday evening during Lent on the Gospel of John as a way to ground us in the Way, Truth and Life of the nonviolent Jesus and to speak out and resist in his spirit of nonviolent love.
Much of my reflections come from my book: Lazarus Come Forth!: How Jesus Confronts the Culture of Death and Invites Us into the New Life of Peace which you might want to get. I hope to offer a 45 minute reflection in each session, and then go around and hear everyone else’s brief comments and reflections. Here is the course schedule:
Monday, March 10th. Session #1
Monday, March 17th. Session #2
Monday, March 24th. Session #3
Monday, March 31st. Session #4
Monday, April 7th. Session #5
All sessions will begin 4pm Pacific/ 5pm Mountain/ 6pm Central/ 7pm Eastern time. You will receive the zoom link a few days beforehand, and a recording link afterwards.
