Introduction: (Enid) According to the Catholic Liturgical Calendar, today is the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time. The season of Ordinary Time consists of the 33 or 34 weeks of the year apart from Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. I read an article in U.S. Catholic that said, “The richness of Ordinary Time is found in the opportunity to know Christ more intimately in the everyday realities of life.”

Recently, Starcross Monastery had a Sunday meeting about Ordinary Time. This started me thinking about how I use the ordinary days of my life. And so, today’s theme of ordinary time was born.

Opening Prayer: (Jane)

O Holy One, In the quiet whispers of our days, help us to find hope in the small moments that often go unnoticed.

May we see Your light in the laughter of a friend, the beauty of nature, and the warmth of a kind word.

Grant us the grace to cherish these fleeting joys, reminding us that even the smallest blessings can illuminate our hearts. Amen

First Reading: Appreciating the Life We Have, Willem Kuyken Ph.D

Each day, intentionally bring awareness to something that you do regularly and know you enjoy. It could be anything - a morning cup of tea or coffee, a walk, a favorite snack, an interaction with someone you appreciate or love, a person or a pet, or a spacious moment in your day while you travel.

Commit to being wholeheartedly present, and aware of your bodily sensations, feelings, and thoughts . Bring an innocent perception and sensitivity to the experience. Explore each of the senses in turn: seeing, hearing, taste, touch, smell.

And sense how attention imbued with innocent perception affects your experience of this moment. Allow your heart to tremble amid the experience, gladdened by the simplicity of the moment.

Pause: (Enid) Before we go on to the Gospel, let’s pause and be aware of the messages our senses are sending to us now or ones our senses sent earlier today.

Gospel: (Jane) Matt 25:35-40

I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was alone and away from home, and you invited me into your house. I was without clothes, and you gave me something to wear. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

“Then the good people will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and give you food, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you alone and away from home and invite you into our house? When did we see you without clothes and give you something to wear? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and care for you?’

“Then the King will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, anything you did for even the least of my people here, you also did for me.’

Shared Homily: (Mary Ellen)

Introduction

When do you feel a sense of the holy in your ordinary daily life?

Prayer of the Faithful: (Enid)

Who or what do we bring to the table? (Use hand gestures)

Eucharistic Prayer: (Enid)

We gather at this table as we ordinarily do. We share the joy of this time together and feel your presence with us, O Lord.

On the night before he died, Jesus was at table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to his friends saying,

All: "This is my body, broken for you."

(Mary Ellen) As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine. Again, he gave thanks to you, gave it to his friends and said,

All: "This is the new covenant of my lifeblood shed for you and for all. As often as you do this, do this in memory of me."

(Enid) Now gathered at your table, we offer to you our gifts of bread and wine, and ourselves, a living sacrifice. Pour out your Spirit upon all these gifts that they, and we, may be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe your Spirit over the whole earth and make us your new creation.

(Mary Ellen) In the fullness of time bring us with all your saints from every tribe and language, from every people and nation to feast at the banquet prepared from the foundation of the world.

All: (Holding up the bread and wine) For it is through Him, with Him and in Him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, O God, now and forever. Amen.

(Enid) Now together, as one community, we offer to you O God, our prayer, in the name of your beloved son and our brother, Jesus:

All: Holy One beyond all names

Eternal Wellspring

May love rise again in us today

With food for every table

Shelter for every family

And reverence for every life.

Forgive us our failings in love

And free us from all falseness

That the light of our souls may shine

And the strength of our spirits endure

For Earth and all its people

This day, tonight, and forever. Amen

Sign of Peace: (Mary Ellen) Let us offer to one another a sign of peace.

Invitation to Communion: (Mary Ellen)

Everyone is welcome to this table. So come, beloved friends, and take this bread, drink this wine. In them, God comes to us, so that we may come to God.

Birthday Blessing: (Enid)

Closing: (Enid) John O’Donohue

May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.

And this beloved Emmaus community says

All: Amen!
