The Faith Leaders of the Sonoma County Sanctuary Coalition will lead the wider community in a Vigil to be held outside of the Sonoma County Jail on Sunday, January 18 at 2pm, as we call for the County Board of Supervisors to Pass a Sanctuary Ordinance that includes a Sheriff’s Office Non-Collaboration Policy with ICE. There will be music and readings by Faith Leaders and Community Organizers, as well as updates on Coalition work.

The Sonoma County Sanctuary Coalition is urging all community members to join in continued advocacy by pressing the County Board of Supervisors to implement a comprehensive Sanctuary Ordinance. This ordinance must specifically include a policy that prevents the Sheriff’s Office from collaborating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Such a policy is in line with California policy and would ensure that local law enforcement no longer participates in the detainment or transfer of individuals to ICE. This policy would enhance trust and cooperation between immigrant communities and local law enforcement, and protect vulnerable residents from unjust targeting and deportation.

Sonoma Teachers and the North Bay Labor Council have endorsed these requests, and people from across the county have communicated their support for this ordinance to the Board of Supervisors.

“We are more powerful than we know. But only if we act. Only if we stand together. Only if we refuse to sacrifice our souls for a narrow and short-sighted sense of comfort and security. The time for looking away is over. The time for action is now.” – Rev. Dr. Tovis Page, Unitarian Universalist Congregation, SR - Santa Rosa

“We know that the sheriff’s collaboration with Immigration Customs Enforcement targets those who are already disproportionately harmed by our racialized criminal justice system”. — Rev. Diana Bell-Kerr, First Congregational United Church of Christ.

WHAT: Continue to push the County Supervisors to adopt a County-Wide Sanctuary Ordinance that includes a Sheriff’s Office Non-Collaboration Policy with ICE.

WHEN: Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 2-3:30 PM

WHERE: Outside the Sonoma County Jail, 2777 VENTURA WAY, SANTA ROSA, CA
