Friday, July 10, 2026: Announcements and a reflection on the Beatitudes: "The Beatitudes remind us that blessing and justice are inextricably linked."



Through Jesus’s example, we learn that the Beatitudes are a vocation for our lives. 

Jesus acts. He doesn’t simply speak blessing; he lives it. Through his words, his hands, his feet, his life, he brings about the very blessings he promises. Insisting that pain in and of itself is neither holy nor redemptive in the Christian story, Jesus works to bring healing, abundance, liberation, and joy to everyone who crosses his path.

This is the vocation we are called to. The work of sharing the blessings we enjoy is not the work of a distant someday. It is the work we’re called to now. The Beatitudes remind us that blessing and justice are inextricably linked. If it’s blessing we want, then it’s justice we must pursue.

Announcements:

Emmaus is forming a Care & Concern Committee

Our Emmaus Community is growing older and may be in need of accompaniment that is caring and compassionate. We are all community. All kin.Forming this new committee is an acknowledgement of our needs but also of our shared love for one another. It’s purpose is  to provide practical, emotional and spiritual support during times of crisis, transition and celebration.

This is facilitated by sharing information so that needs and concerns are known to the larger community and support can be offered. It includes working with David to publish updates through the community blog. Individual privacy is always respected. 

The response can be an offer of physical help, such as a ride to the doctor, a text, email, card, or phone call to let someone know you are thinking about them.

Announcement #2: Palestinian author and friend of Emmaus Adam Manasra speaks at Christ Church on Saturday, July 18th, 2026

Please put this on your calendar: A talk and conversation led by our friend Adam Manasra. Adam has written a new book about his life in a village in Palestine. The Book "A Chronicle of Our Land" tells the story of Adam's life in his ancient agricultural village of of Wadi Foquin, located in the occupied territories near Bethlehem. Hear the story of a community under tremendous pressure and the grace with which they meet every challenge. 

It would be great to see many folks from Emmaus -- and please share this information with friends and family.

Dear Sisters and Brothers of Emmaus: On Monday Linda, Marcie and David visited with Lindsey Kerr, the Pastor of Christ Church Methodist in Santa Rosa in order to assess whether moving to Christ Church for our liturgies would be advantageous for all of us at Emmaus. Many of us have worked with Lindsey and consider her to be an excellent leader who is courageous and energetic. We received a warm welcome from Lindsey who showed us around Christ Church and opened the room in which we may meet. It’s not in the church – but an unused classroom that’s part of the larger set of buildings in the complex.  The room has space enough for us, lots of windows and some storage. They are buying new tables for the room. The room used to be a classroom so there’s plenty of room for our celebrations. Saturday, August 2, 2025: Need Emmaus help with a Hunger Strike: (Please share this information and request for good trouble) Here's a copy of the email I sent out to my congregation to boost participation. I've also attached the latest flyer. Please feel free to modify/copy/steal this language however you see fit.
