SONOMA COUNTY SANCTUARY COALITION

Dear Friends and Allies,

We are happy to invite you and your organization to participate in the Sonoma County Three-Day Walk For Immigrant Rights, on October 10-12, from Petaluma to Cloverdale!

As you know, Sonoma County still has much to do to respond to the attacks against immigrants, including stopping the Sheriff from continuing to turn people over to ICE, offering emergency aid to those who aren’t able to access State or Federal safety nets, and ensuring that immigrant surveillance through General Dynamics Corp. and flock cameras stops.  Cities in Sonoma County must also do more to defend the rights of immigrants.

For these reasons, we are putting together a strong coalition of individuals and organizations who agree that we must show the urgency of this moment by organizing a more dramatic action.

The demands of the Walk (“Caminata”) are:

● The Sheriff must stop collaborating with ICE immediately;

● The County must support a community effort to create a cash fund for undocumented immigrants who cannot meet basic needs;

● General Dynamics Corp. must leave Sonoma County;

● The County must not utilize flock cameras.

The Walk will start at Petaluma City Hall and end in Cloverdale.  We will walk approximately eight hours each day.  Walkers will return home to sleep and re-convene the next morning to a pre-determined location.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided to the walkers.  The Walk will include Safety, Medics, and Route Leaders Teams. The Walk will end on October 12 with a cultural commemoration of Indigenous Peoples Day.

There are many ways to support this effort and get involved:

● Walking, 1-3 days.

● We will need donations to cover food and refreshments. 

● We will need help promoting the Caminata and spreading the word. 

● Volunteering with one of the work groups, Safety, Food, Art & Culture, Press & Media, Support Vehicles.

It’s not in the church – but an unused classroom that’s part of the larger set of buildings in the complex.  The room has space enough for us, lots of windows and some storage.
